Aptitude Test Prep for Electrical Apprenticeships

After you turn in your application to an apprenticeship program you will have to be scheduled for and take an aptitude test. Different apprenticeships give out different tests, but they all revolve around two subjects; algebra and reading comprehension.

Now if you’re reading this, I’m assuming you know how to read. And if you applied for the apprenticeship program it means you met the Algebra I math prerequisite. But for many of us these classes were a long time ago and we could use some serious review. You should review too, as your scores will directly correlate with how you rank in the application pool and determine your spot for the hiring process.

The Tests

While all the tests will test for reading comprehension and/or Algebra, you want to become familiar with the format of the specific test you will be preparing for. You will want to choose a study guide that matches the test format. I will link to free and paid guides for each program. Keep in mind, a lot of the free guides are shorter and you may want to consider more comprehensive study material by purchasing it.

IEC / Other Study Guides

Since IEC has no official aptitude test, I would recommend simply reviewing basic Algebra I principles and reading comprehension. I will combine theses study guides with potential study guides for other apprenticeship programs like WECA who may have similar general aptitude tests.
